Self-titled album set for 31st January release preceded by single Candyfloss on 17th January

Debut London show on 19th January followed by UK tour in February

Norman Blake and Euros Childs are pleased to announce details of their debut album together as Jonny. The self-titled, co-written album will be released on 31st January on Alsatian Records (Turnstile) preceded by single Candyfloss on the 17th January.

The album artwork (above) is also revealed to be the inspiration behind their unusual name. Blake came across the image on a friend’s website “and thought it would make a great record sleeve… and name for a band”. “Sleeve first, band-name after”, confirms Childs, “that’s always the best way”.

Inter-twining the musical DNA of two of Britain’s most gifted songwriters, Jonny’s debut album proclaims the advent of an irresistibly infectious new strain of psychedelic pop. To kick things off, Jonny are giving away a free, four-track download EP of non-album songs from today (Monday 1st November). “Free EP” is available now at http://www.turnstilemusic.net/jonny-free-ep/

Blake’s Teenage Fanclub and Childs’ Gorky’s toured together in 1997, and when Blake contributed guitar and vocal harmonies to Gorky’s bitter-sweet How I Long To Feel That Summer In My Heart in 2001, Euros remembers “it just felt like he was part of the band… from that point on it always felt like we might do something together in the future, it just took a few years to actually get it organised”. Euros eventually made it up to Norman’s house in Glasgow in 2006 to record “what we thought was an EP”, and the duo played a handful of rapturously received live shows, before finally getting down to putting a whole album together early in 2010.

Norman Blake
and Euros Childs met through a mutual appreciation of their respective
bands - Teenage Fanclub and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci. Their musical
affinity led Norman to record and tour with Gorky's Zygotic Mynci and Euros to
record with Teenage Fanclub.

Keeping in
touch they always discussed plans to record some new songs together. One day
Euros caught a train to Glasgow and they recorded 4 songs together with view to
releasing an ep. Something magical happened and they realized there might be
more to it than just a couple of days of writing and recording together.

So a plan was
hatched. Quickly scheduling recording sessions they completed an album in
between other commitments and sent it to Turnstile saying they'd like it out in
2011 and would start touring then.

And so here we
are. Jonny (as they decided to call themselves) have delivered and are about to
release their eponymous debut album. The album is all you hoped for and more.
Combining the pop, harmonies and big tunes associated with both Norman and
Euros' song-writing along with something new - a freshness and vitality of a
new project. Add to that the contagious, spine-tingling emotion of the songs,
those harmonies and those choruses and you have a record that touches all the
right spots and leaves you feeling the first and last days of summer all at
once.

And they
really want to work this record. The release coincides with both of them having
a clear year to promote this record
. So far they
have only played a handful of shows but this is touring old school style.
Jumping into a car with a guitar and some keyboards, driving themselves around
the country, selling their own merchandise at the end of shows and generally
letting people have an evening to feel the special chemistry that makes up Jonny.
So very soon they'll be heading your way with a smile and enthusiasm to talk
about the record, to promote the record, to play shows and sessions and
generally to make sure as many people as possible are humming these tunes.

They are two
of the nicest people in the world and inevitably they've made one of the most
special records in the world. A record that should be on the radio, a record
that has a story to tell and a record you should enjoy working on. Turnstile
and Pias are  particulary proud to present this record to you.
