Let's start by saying "Senior" is an ‘album’. “Well, of course...”, one might say, but allow us to elaborate; "Senior" is a string of tracks, each designated to take on a specific part in a bigger piece. All individual numbers have been made with the intent of coexisting with the other tracks on the album. And each track is equally as important as it's predecessor and successor. In this symbiosis, we feel that the different tracks will be given an even more profound meaning or deeper sense when placed in correlation to the other tracks.

So, to us, this is an album where no track is more important or dominating than the other - all the tracks should be regarded as part of one greater entity. With that in mind, we feel that none of the tracks should be regarded outside of this context, ie. separated from the rest of the album. Quite a "brave"/stupid thing to do in this day & age of iPods and cherrypicking, one might suggest. We couldn't agree more - hell that's even probably why we did it.

Furthermore this album contains no deliberate "hits" and "fillers" - all tracks included have been made with the intention to serve a purpose or particular role on the album.

"Senior" is also a completely instrumental album. This has been done in order to demand the utmost dedication and involvement of the listener. No training wheels...

Ideally we would want to release this album without any further ado; just get it out there without any "MTV-formatted" videos and "singles" (as mentioned above) to campaign it.

Right, now let's dig deeper into the matter...

Normally we don't give out pointers when it comes to our music - we feel the listener him / herself should be at liberty to process the input in whatever way he /she deems fit. But just to give the inquisitive journalist a starting-point, we'll do a quick rundown of our initial thoughts regarding "Senior".

In comparison to "Junior" - which in many ways represents the more outgoing, youthful and direct part of Röyksopp, "Senior" is the introvert and darker sibling, who lives in the attic. Both albums were worked on simultaneously, satisfying two very different artistic needs with the collective soul of Röyksopp.

A few words on each individual track...

1. ...And The Forest Began To Sing

- We could have called this track "gearing up"... If one pretends there is a protagonist leading the way through the album, this track is capturing how he perceives "the moment of anticipation". He's just opened up a case full of various drugs, and he can't believe his luck... Where will this take me...?

2.    Tricky Two

- The drugs take hold. To us this is a dynamic track where the protagonist is being taken through different stages of the drug. It starts of in the small, gets bigger until the point where the sensation is all-consuming. The track picks up speed, shifts over to harmonic bliss, but always with a certain undercurrent of nausea.

3.    The Alcoholic

- A tale of an alcoholic. We share a romantic view on a specific kind of alcoholic. Imagine the grifters in the tale of Pinocchio, but with a taste for booze. We follow the alcoholic for a full day, for the first swig of the day, throughout coexisting tantrums & bliss, until he falls asleep out in the fields. Bless...

4.    Senior Living

- Steel guitars, ‘nuff said.

5.    The Drug

- This highly synthetic drug is the latest craze. Gentle and appealing at first. Repeated use will result in severe personality distortion. Hear that little sound in your head? That ever decaying little "melody"? ..That's your mind going...

6.    Forsaken Cowboy

- Broken, bruised and rejected by society, our flawed cowboy tries to cope. Godspeed.

7.    The Fear

- The reaction to the life you've led. It's sneaking back upon you. Haunting.

8. Coming Home

- Finding peace, sobering up and staying clean.

9.  A Long, Long Way

- But abuse comes with a price; A descending or ascending feeling (whatever you prefer - depending where you're going), until released from this mortal coil.

The Final Day (Hidden track)

- Kinda goes without saying; judgement.
